The Brief

Since May 2026, Ayush Jhunjhunwala has been building a QR code loyalty program for PiiPharma, an Indian pharmaceutical company. Their retailer cashback program previously ran entirely on WhatsApp messages, Excel sheets, and manual Cashfree uploads. The replacement is a mobile-first web portal where retailers scan QR-coded coupons, log in with a WhatsApp OTP, and submit claims — while an admin reviews each claim and exports a bulk UPI payout file in one click.

Technical Highlight

QR Scanning in the Browser, Built for Low-End Phones

The retailers in this loyalty program are small pharmacy shops, often on budget Android phones. Instead of forcing an app download, Ayush Jhunjhunwala built the QR coupon scanner directly into the mobile web portal: the camera feed runs in the page while a dedicated Web Worker decodes QR frames off the main thread, keeping the scanner smooth even on weak hardware. Combined with serial-number deduplication, this turned a fraud-prone manual coupon process into a self-serve digital loyalty system with no installation barrier.

Outcome

The portal at loyalty.piipharma.com is replacing a fully manual WhatsApp → Excel → Cashfree workflow. Coupon claims that previously lived in chat threads now flow through a single review queue, and cashback payouts are exported in one click — with duplicate claims rejected automatically before they ever reach the admin.
